The M1520 and the SPARKGAP wireless data system provide secure, encrypted access to municipal mobile data systems, and, at 4.3oz, the M1520 fits nicely into a shirt pocket or belt clip. This personal mobile data terminal augments vehicle-based systems, allowing officers to check licenses, warrants, and perform other MDT functions while away from their vehicle. It also provides useful primary MDT access to mounted and bicycle units, undercover officers, as well as fire and EMS personnel.

The M1520 also performs other communications functions – it sends and receives email messages, and it can receive personal and group alerts. It supports one personal address and up to 16 group addresses each with its own alerting options, and it maintains a high-performance socket interface directly to CAD. Additionally, the M1520 can roam onto compliant carrier networks and neighboring public safety systems, extending coverage and delivering real, useful interoperability.
